Morning, Thursday. The Psalter Psalm 10 The Tenth Psalm Ut quid, Domine? WHY standest thou so far off, O LORD, * and hidest thy face in the needful time of trouble? The ungodly, for his own lust, doth persecute the poor: * let them be taken in the crafty wiliness that they have imagined. For the ungodly hath made boast of his own heart's desire, * and speaketh good of the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth. The ungodly is so proud, that he careth not for God, * neither is God in all his thoughts. His ways are alway grievous; * thy judgments are far above out of his sight, and therefore defieth he all his enemies. For he hath said in his heart, Tush, I shall never be cast down, * there shall no harm happen unto me. His mouth is full of cursing, deceit, and fraud; * under his tongue is ungodliness and vanity. He sitteth lurking in the thievish corners of the streets, * and privily in his lurking dens doth he murder the innocent; his eyes are set against the poor. For he lieth waiting secretly; even as a lion lurketh he in his den, * that he may ravish the poor. He doth ravish the poor, * when he getteth him into his net. He falleth down, and humbleth himself, * that the congregation of the poor may fall into the hands of his captains. He hath said in his heart, Tush, God hath forgotten; * he hideth away his face, and he will never see it. Arise, O LORD God, and lift up thine hand; * forget not the poor. Wherefore should the wicked blaspheme God, * while he doth say in his heart, Tush, thou God carest not for it? Surely thou hast seen it; * for thou beholdest ungodliness and wrong, that thou mayest take the matter into thy hand. The poor committeth himself unto thee; * for thou art the helper of the friendless. Break thou the power of the ungodly and malicious; * search out his ungodliness, until thou find none. The LORD is King for ever and ever, * and the heathen are perished out of the land. LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the poor; * thou preparest their heart, and thine ear hearkeneth; To help the fatherless and poor unto their right, * that the man of the earth be no more exalted against them. The First Lesson I Samuel 17:17-27 And Jesse said unto David his son, Take now for thy brethren an ephah of this parched corn, and these ten loaves, and run to the camp to thy brethren; And carry these ten cheeses unto the captain of their thousand, and look how thy brethren fare, and take their pledge. Now Saul, and they, and all the men of Israel, were in the valley of Elah, fighting with the Philistines. And David rose up early in the morning, and left the sheep with a keeper, and took, and went, as Jesse had commanded him; and he came to the trench, as the host was going forth to the fight, and shouted for the battle. For Israel and the Philistines had put the battle in array, army against army. And David left his carriage in the hand of the keeper of the carriage, and ran into the army, and came and saluted his brethren. And as he talked with them, behold, there came up the champion, the Philistine of Gath, Goliath by name, out of the armies of the Philistines, and spake according to the same words: and David heard them. And all the men of Israel, when they saw the man, fled from him, and were sore afraid. And the men of Israel said, Have ye seen this man that is come up? surely to defy Israel is he come up: and it shall be, that the man who killeth him, the king will enrich him with great riches, and will give him his daughter, and make his father's house free in Israel. And David spake to the men that stood by him, saying, What shall be done to the man that killeth this Philistine, and taketh away the reproach from Israel? for who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God? And the people answered him after this manner, saying, So shall it be done to the man that killeth him. The Second Lesson St. Luke 18:31 Then he took unto him the twelve, and said unto them, Behold, we go up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of man shall be accomplished. For he shall be delivered unto the Gentiles, and shall be mocked, and spitefully entreated, and spitted on: And they shall scourge him, and put him to death: and the third day he shall rise again. And they understood none of these things: and this saying was hid from them, neither knew they the things which were spoken. And it came to pass, that as he was come nigh unto Jericho, a certain blind man sat by the way side begging: And hearing the multitude pass by, he asked what it meant. And they told him, that Jesus of Nazareth passeth by. And he cried, saying, Jesus, thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And they which went before rebuked him, that he should hold his peace: but he cried so much the more, Thou Son of David, have mercy on me. And Jesus stood, and commanded him to be brought unto him: and when he was come near, he asked him, Saying, What wilt thou that I shall do unto thee? And he said, Lord, that I may receive my sight. And Jesus said unto him, Receive thy sight: thy faith hath saved thee. And immediately he received his sight, and followed him, glorifying God: and all the people, when they saw it, gave praise unto God. The Collect Ninth Sunday after Trinity GRANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right; that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Wednesday after 9 Trinity my life; * and I will dwell in the house of the LORD for ever. The First Lesson Esther 7 So the king and Haman came to banquet with Esther the queen. And the king said again unto Esther on the second day at the banquet of wine, What is thy petition, queen Esther? and it shall be granted thee: and what is thy request? and it shall be performed, even to the half of the kingdom. Then Esther the queen answered and said, If I have found favour in thy sight, O king, and if it please the king, let my life be given me at my petition, and my people at my request: For we are sold, I and my people, to be destroyed, to be slain, and to perish. But if we had been sold for bondmen and bondwomen, I had held my tongue, although the enemy could not countervail the king's damage. Then the king Ahasuerus answered and said unto Esther the queen, Who is he, and where is he, that durst presume in his heart to do so? And Esther said, The adversary and enemy is this wicked Haman. Then Haman was afraid before the king and the queen. And the king arising from the banquet of wine in his wrath went into the palace garden: and Haman stood up to make request for his life to Esther the queen; for he saw that there was evil determined against him by the king. Then the king returned out of the palace garden into the place of the banquet of wine; and Haman was fallen upon the bed whereon Esther was. Then said the king, Will he force the queen also before me in the house? As the word went out of the king's mouth, they covered Haman's face. And Harbonah, one of the chamberlains, said before the king, Behold also, the gallows fifty cubits high, which Haman had made for Mordecai, who had spoken good for the king, standeth in the house of Haman. Then the king said, Hang him thereon. So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then was the king's wrath pacified. The Second Lesson Romans 2:17 Behold, thou art called a Jew, and restest in the law, and makest thy boast of God, And knowest his will, and approvest the things that are more excellent, being instructed out of the law; And art confident that thou thyself art a guide of the blind, a light of them which are in darkness, An instructor of the foolish, a teacher of babes, which hast the form of knowledge and of the truth in the law. Thou therefore which teachest another, teachest thou not thyself? thou that preachest a man should not steal, dost thou steal? Thou that sayest a man should not commit adultery, dost thou commit adultery? thou that abhorrest idols, dost thou commit sacrilege? Thou that makest thy boast of the law, through breaking the law dishonourest thou God? For the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written. For circumcision verily profiteth, if thou keep the law: but if thou be a breaker of the law, thy circumcision is made uncircumcision. Therefore if the uncircumcision keep the righteousness of the law, shall not his uncircumcision be counted for circumcision? And shall not uncircumcision which is by nature, if it fulfil the law, judge thee, who by the letter and circumcision dost transgress the law? For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: But he is a Jew, which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God. The Collect Ninth Sunday after Trinity GRANT to us, Lord, we beseech thee, the spirit to think and do always such things as are right; that we, who cannot do any thing that is good without thee, may by thee be enabled to live according to thy will; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Dear Friends of Saint Hilda's Anglican Catholic Church: as you have seen we frequently post daily office readings from the site common prayer "DOT'' org, which uses the 1928 edition and 1940 lectionary (U. S.) As its source. On this day the Anchorite of Saint Hilda's attempted to access that site and was connected with a site using the Japanese language that seems to sell fashion accessories. We believe that Daemonic forces are at work which can only be driven out by prayer and fasting. Skip Lunch, and politely request the intercession of God's Holy Mother on her Feast Day to return a useful liturgical guide to the web.

Evening Prayer Readings and Collect. The First Lesson Daniel 6:16-23, 25-27 Then the king commanded, and they brought Daniel, and cast him into the den of lions. Now the king spake and said unto Daniel, Thy God whom thou servest continually, he will deliver thee. And a stone was brought, and laid upon the mouth of the den; and the king sealed it with his own signet, and with the signet of his lords; that the purpose might not be changed concerning Daniel. Then the king went to his palace, and passed the night fasting: neither were instruments of music brought before him: and his sleep went from him. Then the king arose very early in the morning, and went in haste unto the den of lions. And when he came to the den, he cried with a lamentable voice unto Daniel: and the king spake and said to Daniel, O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? Then said Daniel unto the king, O king, live for ever. My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions' mouths, that they have not hurt me: forasmuch as before him innocency was found in me; and also before thee, O king, have I done no hurt. Then was the king exceeding glad for him, and commanded that they should take Daniel up out of the den. So Daniel was taken up out of the den, and no manner of hurt was found upon him, because he believed in his God. Then king Darius wrote unto all people, nations, and languages, that dwell in all the earth; Peace be multiplied unto you. I make a decree, That in every dominion of my kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever, and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed, and his dominion shall be even unto the end. He delivereth and rescueth, and he worketh signs and wonders in heaven and in earth, who hath delivered Daniel from the power of the lions. The Second Lesson Acts 27:9-26 Now when much time was spent, and when sailing was now dangerous, because the fast was now already past, Paul admonished them, And said unto them, Sirs, I perceive that this voyage will be with hurt and much damage, not only of the lading and ship, but also of our lives. Nevertheless the centurion believed the master and the owner of the ship, more than those things which were spoken by Paul. And because the haven was not commodious to winter in, the more part advised to depart thence also, if by any means they might attain to Phenice, and there to winter; which is an haven of Crete, and lieth toward the south west and north west. And when the south wind blew softly, supposing that they had obtained their purpose, loosing thence, they sailed close by Crete. But not long after there arose against it a tempestuous wind, called Euroclydon. And when the ship was caught, and could not bear up into the wind, we let her drive. And running under a certain island which is called Clauda, we had much work to come by the boat: Which when they had taken up, they used helps, undergirding the ship; and, fearing lest they should fall into the quicksands, strake sail, and so were driven. And we being exceedingly tossed with a tempest, the next day they lightened the ship; And the third day we cast out with our own hands the tackling of the ship. And when neither sun nor stars in many days appeared, and no small tempest lay on us, all hope that we should be saved was then taken away. But after long abstinence Paul stood forth in the midst of them, and said, Sirs, ye should have hearkened unto me, and not have loosed from Crete, and to have gained this harm and loss. And now I exhort you to be of good cheer: for there shall be no loss of any man's life among you, but of the ship. For there stood by me this night the angel of God, whose I am, and whom I serve, Saying, Fear not, Paul; thou must be brought before Caesar: and, lo, God hath given thee all them that sail with thee. Wherefore, sirs, be of good cheer: for I believe God, that it shall be even as it was told me. Howbeit we must be cast upon a certain island. The Collect Eighth Sunday after Trinity O GOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth; We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Read the readings daily. It helps in ways I was not aware of at first. Morning Prayer Readings Tuesday after Trinity 8 The First Lesson The Second Lesson The Collect Developed and Presented by www.commonprayer.org An Independent Traditional 1928 BCP Ministry The Psalter Psalm 111 The One Hundred Eleventh Psalm Confitebor tibi. I WILL give thanks unto the LORD with my whole heart, * secretly among the faithful, and in the congregation. The works of the LORD are great, * sought out of all them that have pleasure therein. His work is worthy to be praised and had in honour, * and his righteousness endureth for ever. The merciful and gracious LORD hath so done his marvellous works, * that they ought to be had in remembrance. He hath given meat unto them that fear him; * he shall ever be mindful of his covenant. He hath showed his people the power of his works, * that he may give them the heritage of the heathen. The works of his hands are verity and judgment; * all his commandments are true. They stand fast for ever and ever, * and are done in truth and equity. He sent redemption unto his people; * he hath commanded his covenant for ever; holy and reverend is his Name. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; * a good understanding have all they that do thereafter; his praise endureth for ever. Psalm 114 The One Hundred Fourteenth Psalm In exitu Israel. WHEN Israel came out of Egypt, * and the house of Jacob from among the strange people, Judah was his sanctuary, * and Israel his dominion. The sea saw that, and fled; * Jordan was driven back. The mountains skipped like rams, * and the little hills like young sheep. What aileth thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? * and thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams? * and ye little hills, like young sheep? Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord: * at the presence of the God of Jacob; Who turned the hard rock into a standing water, * and the flint-stone into a springing well. The First Lesson I Samuel 11:14 - 12:5 Then said Samuel to the people, Come, and let us go to Gilgal, and renew the kingdom there. And all the people went to Gilgal; and there they made Saul king before the Lord in Gilgal; and there they sacrificed sacrifices of peace offerings before the Lord; and there Saul and all the men of Israel rejoiced greatly. And Samuel said unto all Israel, Behold, I have hearkened unto your voice in all that ye said unto me, and have made a king over you. And now, behold, the king walketh before you: and I am old and grayheaded; and, behold, my sons are with you: and I have walked before you from my childhood unto this day. Behold, here I am: witness against me before the Lord, and before his anointed: whose ox have I taken? or whose ass have I taken? or whom have I defrauded? whom have I oppressed? or of whose hand have I received any bribe to blind mine eyes therewith? and I will restore it you. And they said, Thou hast not defrauded us, nor oppressed us, neither hast thou taken aught of any man's hand. And he said unto them, The Lord is witness against you, and his anointed is witness this day, that ye have not found aught in my hand. And they answered, He is witness. The Second Lesson St. Luke 15:11 And he said, A certain man had two sons: And the younger of them said to his father, Father, give me the portion of goods that falleth to me. And he divided unto them his living. And not many days after the younger son gathered all together, and took his journey into a far country, and there wasted his substance with riotous living. And when he had spent all, there arose a mighty famine in that land; and he began to be in want. And he went and joined himself to a citizen of that country; and he sent him into his fields to feed swine. And he would fain have filled his belly with the husks that the swine did eat: and no man gave unto him. And when he came to himself, he said, How many hired servants of my father's have bread enough and to spare, and I perish with hunger! I will arise and go to my father, and will say unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and before thee, And am no more worthy to be called thy son: make me as one of thy hired servants. And he arose, and came to his father. But when he was yet a great way off, his father saw him, and had compassion, and ran, and fell on his neck, and kissed him. And the son said unto him, Father, I have sinned against heaven, and in thy sight, and am no more worthy to be called thy son. But the father said to his servants, Bring forth the best robe, and put it on him; and put a ring on his hand, and shoes on his feet: And bring hither the fatted calf, and kill it; and let us eat, and be merry: For this my son was dead, and is alive again; he was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry. Now his elder son was in the field: and as he came and drew nigh to the house, he heard musick and dancing. And he called one of the servants, and asked what these things meant. And he said unto him, Thy brother is come; and thy father hath killed the fatted calf, because he hath received him safe and sound. And he was angry, and would not go in: therefore came his father out, and intreated him. And he answering said to his father, Lo, these many years do I serve thee, neither transgressed I at any time thy commandment: and yet thou never gavest me a kid, that I might make merry with my friends: But as soon as this thy son was come, which hath devoured thy living with harlots, thou hast killed for him the fatted calf. And he said unto him, Son, thou art ever with me, and all that I have is thine. It was meet that we should make merry, and be glad: for this thy brother was dead, and is alive again; and was lost, and is found. Mass at 10 30 A. The First Lesson (First Set of Propers) *Ecclesiasticus 1:18-27 The fear of the Lord is a crown of wisdom, making peace and perfect health to flourish; both which are the gifts of God: and it enlargeth their rejoicing that love him. Wisdom raineth down skill and knowledge of understanding, and exalteth them to honour that hold her fast. The root of wisdom is to fear the Lord, and the branches thereof are long life. The fear of the Lord driveth away sins: and where it is present, it turneth away wrath. A furious man cannot be justified; for the sway of his fury shall be his destruction. A patient man will tear for a time, and afterward joy shall spring up unto him. He will hide his words for a time, and the lips of many shall declare his wisdom. The parables of knowledge are in the treasures of wisdom: but godliness is an abomination to a sinner. If thou desire wisdom, keep the commandments, and the Lord shall give her unto thee. For the fear of the Lord is wisdom and instruction: and faith and meekness are his delight. The Second Lesson (First Set of Propers) St. John 7:14-24 Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him. Did not Moses give you the law, and yet none of you keepeth the law? Why go ye about to kill me? The people answered and said, Thou hast a devil: who goeth about to kill thee? Jesus answered and said unto them, I have done one work, and ye all marvel. Moses therefore gave unto you circumcision; (not because it is of Moses, but of the fathers;) and ye on the sabbath day circumcise a man. If a man on the sabbath day receive circumcision, that the law of Moses should not be broken; are ye angry at me, because I have made a man every whit whole on the sabbath day? Judge not according to the appearance, but judge righteous judgment. The Collect O GOD, whose never-failing providence ordereth all things both in heaven and earth; We humbly beseech thee to put away from us all hurtful things, and to give us those things which are profitable for us; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Evensong. Evening Prayer Readings Thursday after Trinity 7 The First Lesson The Second Lesson The Collect Developed and Presented by www.commonprayer.org An Independent Traditional 1928 BCP Ministry The Psalter Psalm 89:1-19 The Eighty-Ninth Psalm Misericordias Domini. MY song shall be alway of the loving-kindness of the LORD; * with my mouth will I ever be showing thy truth from one generation to another. For I have said, Mercy shall be set up for ever; * thy truth shalt thou stablish in the heavens. I have made a covenant with my chosen; * I have sworn unto David my servant: Thy seed will I stablish for ever, * and set up thy throne from one generation to another. O LORD, the very heavens shall praise thy wondrous works; * and thy truth in the congregation of the saints. For who is he among the clouds, * that shall be compared unto the LORD? And what is he among the gods, * that shall be like unto the LORD? God is very greatly to be feared in the council of the saints, * and to be had in reverence of all them that are round about him. O Lord God of hosts, who is like unto thee? * thy truth, most mighty LORD, is on every side. Thou rulest the raging of the sea; * thou stillest the waves thereof when they arise. Thou hast subdued Egypt, and destroyed it; * thou hast scattered thine enemies abroad with thy mighty arm. The heavens are thine, the earth also is thine; * thou hast laid the foundation of the round world, and all that therein is. Thou hast made the north and the south; * Tabor and Hermon shall rejoice in thy Name. Thou hast a mighty arm; * strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand. Righteousness and equity are the habitation of thy seat; * mercy and truth shall go before thy face. Blessed is the people, O LORD, that can rejoice in thee; * they shall walk in the light of thy countenance. Their delight shall be daily in thy Name; * and in thy righteousness shall they make their boast. For thou art the glory of their strength, * and in thy loving-kindness thou shalt lift up our horns. For the LORD is our defence; * the Holy One of Israel is our King. vs 20 Thou spakest sometime in visions unto thy saints, and saidst, * I have laid help upon one that is mighty, I have exalted one chosen out of the people. I have found David my servant; * with my holy oil have I anointed him. My hand shall hold him fast, * and my arm shall strengthen him. The enemy shall not be able to do him violence; * the son of wickedness shall not hurt him. I will smite down his foes before his face, * and plague them that hate him. My truth also and my mercy shall be with him; * and in my Name shall his horn be exalted. I will set his dominion also in the sea, * and his right hand in the floods. He shall call me, Thou art my Father, * my God, and my strong salvation. And I will make him my firstborn, * higher than the kings of the earth. My mercy will I keep for him for evermore, * and my covenant shall stand fast with him. His seed also will I make to endure for ever, * and his throne as the days of heaven. vs 31 But if his children forsake my law, * and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; * I will visit their offences with the rod, and their sin with scourges. Nevertheless, my loving-kindness will I not utterly take from him, * nor suffer my truth to fail. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips: * I have sworn once by my holiness, that I will not fail David. His seed shall endure for ever, * and his throne is like as the sun before me. He shall stand fast for evermore as the moon, * and as the faithful witness in heaven. But thou hast abhorred and forsaken thine anointed, * and art displeased at him. Thou hast broken the covenant of thy servant, * and cast his crown to the ground. Thou hast overthrown all his hedges, * and broken down his strongholds. All they that go by spoil him, * and he is become a reproach to his neighbours. Thou hast set up the right hand of his enemies, * and made all his adversaries to rejoice. Thou hast taken away the edge of his sword, * and givest him not victory in the battle. Thou hast put out his glory, * and cast his throne down to the ground. The days of his youth hast thou shortened, * and covered him with dishonour. LORD, how long wilt thou hide thyself? for ever? * and shall thy wrath burn like fire? O remember how short my time is; * wherefore hast thou made all men for nought? What man is he that liveth, and shall not see death? * and shall he deliver his soul from the power of the grave? Lord, where are thy old loving-kindnesses, * which thou swarest unto David in thy truth? Remember, Lord, the rebuke that thy servants have, * and how I do bear in my bosom the rebukes of many people; Wherewith thine enemies have blasphemed thee, * and slandered the footsteps of thine anointed. Praised be the LORD for evermore. * Amen, and Amen. The First Lesson Daniel 5:1-9 Belshazzar the king made a great feast to a thousand of his lords, and drank wine before the thousand. Belshazzar, whiles he tasted the wine, commanded to bring the golden and silver vessels which his father Nebuchadnezzar had taken out of the temple which was in Jerusalem; that the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, might drink therein. Then they brought the golden vessels that were taken out of the temple of the house of God which was at Jerusalem; and the king, and his princes, his wives, and his concubines, drank in them. They drank wine, and praised the gods of gold, and of silver, of brass, of iron, of wood, and of stone. In the same hour came forth fingers of a man's hand, and wrote over against the candlestick upon the plaster of the wall of the king's palace: and the king saw the part of the hand that wrote. Then the king's countenance was changed, and his thoughts troubled him, so that the joints of his loins were loosed, and his knees smote one against another. The king cried aloud to bring in the astrologers, the Chaldeans, and the soothsayers. And the king spake, and said to the wise men of Babylon, Whosoever shall read this writing, and shew me the interpretation thereof, shall be clothed with scarlet, and have a chain of gold about his neck, and shall be the third ruler in the kingdom. Then came in all the king's wise men: but they could not read the writing, nor make known to the king the interpretation thereof. Then was king Belshazzar greatly troubled, and his countenance was changed in him, and his lords were astonied. The Second Lesson Acts 24:10-23 Then Paul, after that the governor had beckoned unto him to speak, answered, Forasmuch as I know that thou hast been of many years a judge unto this nation, I do the more cheerfully answer for myself: Because that thou mayest understand, that there are yet but twelve days since I went up to Jerusalem for to worship. And they neither found me in the temple disputing with any man, neither raising up the people, neither in the synagogues, nor in the city: Neither can they prove the things whereof they now accuse me. But this I confess unto thee, that after the way which they call heresy, so worship I the God of my fathers, believing all things which are written in the law and in the prophets: And have hope toward God, which they themselves also allow, that there shall be a resurrection of the dead, both of the just and unjust. And herein do I exercise myself, to have always a conscience void of offence toward God, and toward men. Now after many years I came to bring alms to my nation, and offerings. Whereupon certain Jews from Asia found me purified in the temple, neither with multitude, nor with tumult. Who ought to have been here before thee, and object, if they had ought against me. Or else let these same here say, if they have found any evil doing in me, while I stood before the council, Except it be for this one voice, that I cried standing among them, Touching the resurrection of the dead I am called in question by you this day. And when Felix heard these things, having more perfect knowledge of that way, he deferred them, and said, When Lysias the chief captain shall come down, I will know the uttermost of your matter. And he commanded a centurion to keep Paul, and to let him have liberty, and that he should forbid none of his acquaintance to minister or come unto him. Friday (tomorrow) is NOT a day of abstinence, for it is within the week of the Transfiguration of the Lord. Early Morning. Morning Prayer Readings Thursday after Trinity 7 The First Lesson The Second Lesson The Collect Developed and Presented by www.commonprayer.org An Independent Traditional 1928 BCP Ministry The Psalter Psalm 85 The Eighty-Fifth Psalm Benedixisti, Domine. LORD, thou art become gracious unto thy land; * thou hast turned away the captivity of Jacob. Thou hast forgiven the offence of thy people, * and covered all their sins. Thou hast taken away all thy displeasure, * and turned thyself from thy wrathful indignation. Turn us then, O God our Saviour, * and let thine anger cease from us. Wilt thou be displeased at us for ever? * and wilt thou stretch out thy wrath from one generation to another? Wilt thou not turn again, and quicken us, * that thy people may rejoice in thee? Show us thy mercy, O LORD, * and grant us thy salvation. I will hearken what the LORD God will say; * for he shall speak peace unto his people, and to his saints, that they turn not again unto foolishness. For his salvation is nigh them that fear him; * that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together: * righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall flourish out of the earth, * and righteousness hath looked down from heaven. Yea, the LORD shall show loving-kindness; * and our land shall give her increase. Righteousness shall go before him, * and shall direct his going in the way. The First Lesson I Samuel 9:22 And Samuel took Saul and his servant, and brought them into the parlour, and made them sit in the chiefest place among them that were bidden, which were about thirty persons. And Samuel said unto the cook, Bring the portion which I gave thee, of which I said unto thee, Set it by thee. And the cook took up the shoulder, and that which was upon it, and set it before Saul. And Samuel said, Behold that which is left! set it before thee, and eat: for unto this time hath it been kept for thee since I said, I have invited the people. So Saul did eat with Samuel that day. And when they were come down from the high place into the city, Samuel communed with Saul upon the top of the house. And they arose early: and it came to pass about the spring of the day, that Samuel called Saul to the top of the house, saying, Up, that I may send thee away. And Saul arose, and they went out both of them, he and Samuel, abroad. And as they were going down to the end of the city, Samuel said to Saul, Bid the servant pass on before us, (and he passed on,) but stand thou still a while, that I may shew thee the word of God. The Second Lesson St. Luke 14:1-14 And it came to pass, as he went into the house of one of the chief Pharisees to eat bread on the sabbath day, that they watched him. And, behold, there was a certain man before him which had the dropsy. And Jesus answering spake unto the lawyers and Pharisees, saying, Is it lawful to heal on the sabbath day? And they held their peace. And he took him, and healed him, and let him go; And answered them, saying, Which of you shall have an ass or an ox fallen into a pit, and will not straightway pull him out on the sabbath day? And they could not answer him again to these things. And he put forth a parable to those which were bidden, when he marked how they chose out the chief rooms; saying unto them, When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him; And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room. But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee. For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted. Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee. But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind: And thou shalt be blessed; for they cannot recompense thee: for thou shalt be recompensed at the resurrection of the just. Late but ... The First Lesson (First Set of Propers) *Hosea 14 O Israel, return unto the Lord thy God; for thou hast fallen by thine iniquity. Take with you words, and turn to the Lord: say unto him, Take away all iniquity, and receive us graciously: so will we render the calves of our lips. Asshur shall not save us; we will not ride upon horses: neither will we say any more to the work of our hands, Ye are our gods: for in thee the fatherless findeth mercy. I will heal their backsliding, I will love them freely: for mine anger is turned away from him. I will be as the dew unto Israel: he shall grow as the lily, and cast forth his roots as Lebanon. His branches shall spread, and his beauty shall be as the olive tree, and his smell as Lebanon. They that dwell under his shadow shall return; they shall revive as the corn, and grow as the vine: the scent thereof shall be as the wine of Lebanon. Ephraim shall say, What have I to do any more with idols? I have heard him, and observed him: I am like a green fir tree. From me is thy fruit found. Who is wise, and he shall understand these things? prudent, and he shall know them? for the ways of the Lord are right, and the just shall walk in them: but the transgressors shall fall therein.

Continuing to pray for all those being treated for cancer, those whom have suffered a stroke, and those who have to impossibly go on. Evening Prayer Readings Friday after Trinity 6 The First Lesson The Second Lesson The Collect Developed and Presented by www.commonprayer.org An Independent Traditional 1928 BCP Ministry The Psalter Psalm 71 The Seventy-First Psalm In te, Domine, speravi. IN thee, O LORD, have I put my trust; let me never be put to confusion, * but rid me and deliver me in thy righteousness; incline thine ear unto me, and save me. Be thou my stronghold, whereunto I may alway resort: * thou hast promised to help me, for thou art my house of defence, and my castle. Deliver me, O my God, out of the hand of the ungodly, * out of the hand of the unrighteous and cruel man. For thou, O Lord GOD, art the thing that I long for: * thou art my hope, even from my youth. Through thee have I been holden up ever since I was born: * thou art he that took me out of my mother's womb: my praise shall be alway of thee. I am become as it were a monster unto many, * but my sure trust is in thee. O let my mouth be filled with thy praise, * that I may sing of thy glory and honour all the day long. Cast me not away in the time of age; * forsake me not when my strength faileth me. For mine enemies speak against me; * and they that lay wait for my soul take their counsel together, saying, God hath forsaken him; * persecute him, and take him, for there is none to deliver him. Go not far from me, O God; * my God, haste thee to help me. Let them be confounded and perish that are against my soul; * let them be covered with shame and dishonour that seek to do me evil. As for me, I will patiently abide alway, * and will praise thee more and more. My mouth shall daily speak of thy righteousness and salvation; * for I know no end thereof. I will go forth in the strength of the Lord GOD, *and will make mention of thy righteousness only. Thou, O God, hast taught me from my youth up until now; * therefore will I tell of thy wondrous works. Forsake me not, O God, in mine old age, when I am gray-headed, * until I have showed thy strength unto this generation, and thy power to all them that are yet for to come. Thy righteousness, O God, is very high, * and great things are they that thou hast done: O God, who is like unto thee! O what great troubles and adversities hast thou showed me ! and yet didst thou turn and refresh me; * yea, and broughtest me from the deep of the earth again. Thou hast brought me to great honour, * and comforted me on every side: Therefore will I praise thee, and thy faithfulness, O God, playing upon an instrument of music: * unto thee will I sing upon the harp, O thou Holy One of Israel. My lips will be glad when I sing unto thee; * and so will my soul whom thou hast delivered. My tongue also shall talk of thy righteousness all the day long; * for they are confounded and brought unto shame that seek to do me evil. The First Lesson Daniel 3:8-18 Wherefore at that time certain Chaldeans came near, and accused the Jews. They spake and said to the king Nebuchadnezzar, O king, live for ever. Thou, O king, hast made a decree, that every man that shall hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, shall fall down and worship the golden image: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth, that he should be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. There are certain Jews whom thou hast set over the affairs of the province of Babylon, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego; these men, O king, have not regarded thee: they serve not thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. Then Nebuchadnezzar in his rage and fury commanded to bring Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. Then they brought these men before the king. Nebuchadnezzar spake and said unto them, Is it true, O Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, do not ye serve my gods, nor worship the golden image which I have set up? Now if ye be ready that at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the image which I have made; well: but if ye worship not, ye shall be cast the same hour into the midst of a burning fiery furnace; and who is that God that shall deliver you out of my hands? Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, answered and said to the king, O Nebuchadnezzar, we are not careful to answer thee in this matter. If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and he will deliver us out of thine hand, O king. But if not, be it known unto thee, O king, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up. The Second Lesson Acts 21:37 - 22:16 And as Paul was to be led into the castle, he said unto the chief captain, May I speak unto thee? Who said, Canst thou speak Greek? Art not thou that Egyptian, which before these days madest an uproar, and leddest out into the wilderness four thousand men that were murderers? But Paul said, I am a man which am a Jew of Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, a citizen of no mean city: and, I beseech thee, suffer me to speak unto the people. And when he had given him licence, Paul stood on the stairs, and beckoned with the hand unto the people. And when there was made a great silence, he spake unto them in the Hebrew tongue, saying, Men, brethren, and fathers, hear ye my defence which I make now unto you. (And when they heard that he spake in the Hebrew tongue to them, they kept the more silence: and he saith,) I am verily a man which am a Jew, born in Tarsus, a city in Cilicia, yet brought up in this city at the feet of Gamaliel, and taught according to the perfect manner of the law of the fathers, and was zealous toward God, as ye all are this day. And I persecuted this way unto the death, binding and delivering into prisons both men and women. As also the high priest doth bear me witness, and all the estate of the elders: from whom also I received letters unto the brethren, and went to Damascus, to bring them which were there bound unto Jerusalem, for to be punished. And it came to pass, that, as I made my journey, and was come nigh unto Damascus about noon, suddenly there shone from heaven a great light round about me. And I fell unto the ground, and heard a voice saying unto me, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me? And I answered, Who art thou, Lord? And he said unto me, I am Jesus of Nazareth, whom thou persecutest. And they that were with me saw indeed the light, and were afraid; but they heard not the voice of him that spake to me. And I said, What shall I do, Lord? And the Lord said unto me, Arise, and go into Damascus; and there it shall be told thee of all things which are appointed for thee to do. And when I could not see for the glory of that light, being led by the hand of them that were with me, I came into Damascus. And one Ananias, a devout man according to the law, having a good report of all the Jews which dwelt there, Came unto me, and stood, and said unto me, Brother Saul, receive thy sight. And the same hour I looked up upon him. And he said, The God of our fathers hath chosen thee, that thou shouldest know his will, and see that Just One, and shouldest hear the voice of his mouth. For thou shalt be his witness unto all men of what thou hast seen and heard. And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord. Evening Prayer Readings Thursday after Trinity 6 The First Lesson The Second Lesson The Collect Developed and Presented by www.commonprayer.org An Independent Traditional 1928 BCP Ministry The Psalter Psalm 66 The Sixty-Sixth Psalm Jubilate Deo. O BE joyful in God, all ye lands; * sing praises unto the honour of his Name; make his praise to be glorious. Say unto God, O how wonderful art thou in thy works! * through the greatness of thy power shall thine enemies bow down unto thee. For all the world shall worship thee, * sing of thee, and praise thy Name. O come hither, and behold the works of God; * how wonderful he is in his doing toward the children of men. He turned the sea into dry land, * so that they went through the water on foot; there did we rejoice thereof. He ruleth with his power for ever; his eyes behold the nations: * and such as will not believe shall not be able to exalt themselves. O praise our God, ye peoples, * and make the voice of his praise to be heard; Who holdeth our soul in life; * and suffereth not our feet to slip. For thou, O God, hast proved us; * thou also hast tried us, like as silver is tried. Thou broughtest us into the snare; * and laidest trouble upon our loins. Thou sufferedst men to ride over our heads; * we went through fire and water, and thou broughtest us out into a wealthy place. I will go into thine house with burnt-offerings, and will pay thee my vows, * which I promised with my lips, and spake with my mouth, when I was in trouble. I will offer unto thee fat burnt-sacrifices, with the incense of rams; * I will offer bullocks and goats. O come hither, and hearken, all ye that fear God; * and I will tell you what he hath done for my soul. I called unto him with my mouth, * and gave him praises with my tongue. If I incline unto wickedness with mine heart, * the Lord will not hear me. But God hath heard me; * and considered the voice of my prayer. Praised be God, who hath not cast out my prayer, * nor turned his mercy from me. The First Lesson Daniel 3:1-7 Nebuchadnezzar the king made an image of gold, whose height was threescore cubits, and the breadth thereof six cubits: he set it up in the plain of Dura, in the province of Babylon. Then Nebuchadnezzar the king sent to gather together the princes, the governors, and the captains, the judges, the treasurers, the counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, to come to the dedication of the image which Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. Then the princes, the governors, and captains, the judges, the treasurers, and counsellors, the sheriffs, and all the rulers of the provinces, were gathered together unto the dedication of the image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up; and they stood before the image that Nebuchadnezzar had set up. Then an herald cried aloud, To you it is commanded, O people, nations, and languages, That at what time ye hear the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, dulcimer, and all kinds of music, ye fall down and worship the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king hath set up: And whoso falleth not down and worshippeth shall the same hour be cast into the midst of a burning fiery furnace. Therefore at that time, when all the people heard the sound of the cornet, flute, harp, sackbut, psaltery, and all kinds of music, all the people, the nations, and the languages, fell down and worshipped the golden image that Nebuchadnezzar the king had set up. The Second Lesson Acts 21:27-36 And when the seven days were almost ended, the Jews which were of Asia, when they saw him in the temple, stirred up all the people, and laid hands on him, Crying out, Men of Israel, help: This is the man, that teacheth all men every where against the people, and the law, and this place: and further brought Greeks also into the temple, and hath polluted this holy place. (For they had seen before with him in the city Trophimus an Ephesian, whom they supposed that Paul had brought into the temple.) And all the city was moved, and the people ran together: and they took Paul, and drew him out of the temple: and forthwith the doors were shut. And as they went about to kill him, tidings came unto the chief captain of the band, that all Jerusalem was in an uproar. Who immediately took soldiers and centurions, and ran down unto them: and when they saw the chief captain and the soldiers, they left beating of Paul. Then the chief captain came near, and took him, and commanded him to be bound with two chains; and demanded who he was, and what he had done. And some cried one thing, some another, among the multitude: and when he could not know the certainty for the tumult, he commanded him to be carried into the castle. And when he came upon the stairs, so it was, that he was borne of the soldiers for the violence of the people. For the multitude of the people followed after, crying, Away with him.
